KOACH

Learn VAST programming by watching it move.

Interactive lessons that show what each K2700 modulator does, on a live scope you can drag and hear. Free, in your browser.

KOACH turns VAST programming into things you can see and hear. Each theme takes one part of the K2700 (the FUNs, the envelopes, the LFOs) and animates it lesson by lesson, with examples from the factory programs.

Ten themes are open: FUNs, all 52 FUN equations in six levels, then LFOs, Envelopes, ASRs, Modulation, Algorithms, DSP functions, Effects, Editing a sound, the editor itself, and Creating a sound, eight sounds built step by step, in five to nine lessons each.

The themes

One part of the K2700 at a time.

Each theme is a set of lessons on one part of VAST programming. Open the ones that are ready; the others are on their way.

THEME 1FUNsThe FUN Atlas

All 52 FUN equations, from a*b to the hidden LFOs: what each one does with its two inputs, animated with examples from the factory programs.

Open52 lessons · 6 levels
THEME 2LFOsMotion on a loop

The two LFOs of a layer: 46 shapes, rates in Hz or locked to the tempo, rate control, phase, per voice or global, and what they drive.

Open7 lessons
THEME 3EnvelopesShape over time

AMPENV, ENV2 and ENV3: seven segments, levels and loudness, the time scale, Natural and User, loops, envelope control and Impact.

Open8 lessons
THEME 4ASRsLate and slow

The two ASRs of a layer: delay, attack and release, the Norm, Hold and Rept modes, what triggers them, per voice or global, and what they drive.

Open5 lessons
THEME 5ModulationWhere a control goes

How a row adds up: its value, key and velocity tracking, Src1 and its Depth, Src2 and its Depth Ctl; who a source belongs to, the panel's controls, what else a source moves, and the factory's routings.

Open7 lessons
THEME 6AlgorithmsHow a layer is wired

The signal path of a layer: the 106 ALGs, their places and blocks, wires in series and alongside, the two-input mixers, oscillators in the path, cascades, and the ALGs the factory uses.

Open7 lessons
THEME 7DSP functionsWhat each block does

The functions a layer's blocks hold: low and high passes, resonance and Drive, bands, notches and all passes, EQ, shapers and distortion, oscillators, and the ones the factory uses most.

Open7 lessons
THEME 8EffectsThe room and the motion

How a program's effects are built: the insert chain and the aux sends, a layer's own effects, reverbs, delays, chorus, flanger and phaser, tremolo and auto-pan, EQ, enhancer and compressor, the factory's chains, and editing a chain.

Open9 lessons
THEME 9Editing a soundYour version of a sound

How Program Edit works on the K2700: its pages and soft buttons, layers, keys and velocities, keymaps and tuning, the PARAMS page, COMPARE and SAVE, and a whole edit of a factory program.

Open7 lessons
THEME 10Creating a soundFrom silence to your own sound

Eight sounds built step by step from the Editor Template: the start, a warm pad, a bass, a lead with vibrato, brass, a pluck, ensemble strings, and a checklist for a sound of your own.

See it move

Examples from the factory programs, animated on a scope and on their own screen; slow them down, drag them, move the controller.

Hear it

LISTEN turns the output into a tone: a vibrato, a level, a brightness. You hear what the numbers do.

What to know

Each lesson ends with the inputs, the output range, the uses and the traps, and the factory programs to find on your K2700.
