Algorithms
How a layer is wired
The signal path of a layer: the 106 ALGs, their places and blocks, wires in series and alongside, the two-input mixers, oscillators in the path, cascades, and the ALGs the factory uses.
A VAST layer's sound runs from the keymap (or another layer) through up to four blocks of DSP functions to the AMP. The algorithm, one of 106, decides how many places there are, how many blocks each takes and the wires between them.
Seven lessons: the signal path, four blocks to a layer, in series and alongside, two wires into one, oscillators in the path, one layer into the next, and the factory's algorithms. Each plays the layer itself: probe the sound after every place.
From the signal path to the factory's ALGs.
Each lesson plays layers taken from the factory programs: click a place on the diagram to see and hear the sound after it, and move its functions.
A VAST layer's sound runs along a path: the keymap's sample (KEY), played at the note's pitch (PITCH), through up to four blocks of DSP functions (F1 to F4) and the AMP to the output.

75 ALGs with a second wireLESSON 4Two wires into oneMixersA place with two inputs takes one of the two-input functions.
656 two-input placesLESSON 5Oscillators in the pathOscillatorsSome functions are oscillators: they make a sound of their own at the note's pitch and do not need the KEY.
586 layers made by oscillators aloneLESSON 6One layer into the nextCascade56 ALGs start from ALT instead of the KEY: another layer's output, chosen with the layer's Alt Input.
917 layers in a cascadeLESSON 7The factory's algorithmsGalleryOf the 106 ALGs, the factory programs lean on a few: ALG 1 and ALG 6 carry more than half of all layers, then the 4-block ALG 5, ALG 9, the cascade ALG 105 and the other serial ones.
