Where a control goes
How a row adds up: its value, key and velocity tracking, Src1 and its Depth, Src2 and its Depth Ctl; who a source belongs to, the panel's controls, what else a source moves, and the factory's routings.
Every row of a VAST layer, its pitch, its level and each DSP function's parameter, is a sum: a value, the key and velocity tracking, and two sources that move it while the note plays. The sources are the panel's controls, what each note brings, and the layer's own LFOs, ASRs and envelopes.
Seven lessons: the sum, Source 1 and polarity, Source 2 and its Depth Ctl, per note or per channel or per program, the panel's controls, what a source moves beyond the rows, and the routings the factory programs share.
From one row's sum to the factory's plan.
Each lesson animates rows taken from the factory programs: watch the sources on the scope, move the controls, and hear the row they move.
Every row of a layer (its pitch, its level and each DSP function's parameter) adds up five things: its value, the key tracking, the velocity tracking, Source 1 times its Depth, and Source 2 times a depth of its own.
1,544 rows with all four termsLESSON 2Source 1 and its DepthSrc1Source 1 adds the source's value times the Depth.
24,642 rows with a Source 1LESSON 3Source 2 and its Depth CtlSrc2Source 2 adds the source times a depth that can move: Min Depth while its Depth Ctl is 0, Max Depth when it is at 1, and the way between.
15,533 rows with a Source 2LESSON 4Per note, per channel, per programScopeA source belongs to each note, to the MIDI channel or to the program.
832 programs with Globals OnLESSON 5The panel's controlsControlsEach control on the K2700's panel sends a MIDI controller, and a row names it by its source: Slider 1 is MIDI12, Slider 3 MIDI22, Button 3 Ctl G, Knob 5 MIDI14, the mod wheel MWheel.
1,384 programs with labelled controlsLESSON 6Beyond the rowsDestinationsA source can move more than a row: an LFO's rate, an ASR's trigger, whether a layer plays at all, how fast the AMPENV runs, Impact, an effect's send, a FUN's inputs.
3,787 layers switched by an EnableLESSON 7The factory's routingsRoutingsThe factory programs repeat a handful of routings: Slider 3 and Slider 4 on the attack and release, Button 3 on Impact, Slider 1 on the filter, the mod wheel on the vibrato's depth, Slider 9 on the reverb.
