b/(1−a)

products and scaling= b / (1 - a)

Divides b by 1 - a: as a approaches 1 the output grows sharply.

WHAT TO KNOW

INPUTS

a: the gain control (0 none, near 1 huge, negative values shrink b); b: the source.

OUTPUT RANGE

-1..+1, clamped; b itself at a = 0, twice b at a = 0.5

USE IT FOR

A gain on a source that a controller raises steeply (a wheel boosting an envelope toward the clamp); with a negative a, a control that shrinks b (a = -1 halves it).

WATCH OUT

As a nears 1 the output shoots to the clamp; at exactly 1 it is +1 or −1, with b's sign.

IN THE FACTORY PROGRAMS

No factory program uses it: one of the K2700's hidden tools.

HOW TO ON YOUR K2700 · 2046 Editor Template

The factory does not route b/(1-a) to a sound on its own: set one up on 2046 Editor Template and hear it on the pitch.

  1. In Program mode choose 2046 Editor Template, a plain one-layer program to build on (KEYPAD, 2046, ENTER).

Program mode with 2046 Editor Template
  2. Press EDIT, then MORE and DSP MOD. On the Pitch row set Source 1 to FUN2 and its Depth to 1200 ct: FUN2's result, −1 to +1, now bends the pitch up to an octave either way.

The DSP MOD page of 2046 Editor Template, layer 1, the cursor on Depth (1200 ct)
  3. MORE, then LFO+. On the FUN2 row set Input a to MWheel and Input b to 0.10.

The LFO+ page of 2046 Editor Template, layer 1, the cursor on Input b (0.10)
  4. Move to Function and turn the Alpha Wheel to b/(1-a).

The LFO+ page of 2046 Editor Template, layer 1, the cursor on Function (b/(1-a))
  5. Push the mod wheel up: the pitch rises slowly, then faster and faster: 0.10 / (1 − wheel) doubles at halfway and reaches an octave at 90 % of the travel.

  6. Press EXIT and answer NO to leave the factory program as it was, or SAVE to keep your version on a USER ID.
