EQ: mids, shelves and treble

EQPARA MID · PARAMETRIC · SHELVES · TREBLE

The EQs leave the sound as it is and lift or lower one part of it. PARA MID boosts or cuts a band about two octaves wide, PARAMETRIC EQ lets you set its width too, the shelves move everything below or above a frequency, TREBLE the top at 4 kHz in one block.

WHAT TO KNOW

THE FORM

Each adds a filtered copy of the sound to itself: at 0 dB nothing changes, so an EQ can stay in a layer and be moved by a control.

SIZES

TREBLE takes one block, PARA MID and the shelves two, PARAMETRIC EQ and STEEP RESONANT BASS three, TWIN PEAKS and HIFREQ STIMULATOR four.

USE IT FOR

Presence on a slider (Button 2's Presence is often a TREBLE), a body boost for a piano, an air shelf for strings, the factory's PARA MID on brass and winds.

WATCH OUT

A boost adds level: +12 dB of mids into a shaper or a resonant filter changes those too.

IN THE FACTORY PROGRAMS

TREBLE in 1,572 layers, PARA MID in 646 (median 1.44 kHz), the HIGH SHELF in 513 (6.27 kHz), the LOW SHELF in 268 (392 Hz).

HOW TO ON YOUR K2700 · 704 Ensemble WWinds

Ensemble WWinds' second layer lifts its mids with a PARA MID before its filter.

  1. In Program mode choose 704 Ensemble WWinds (KEYPAD, 704, ENTER).

  2. Press EDIT, go to layer 2 with CHANNEL/LAYER ▲, then MORE and DSP CTL. The Mid Frq row is A#6 1865 Hz, the band's centre.

  3. The Mid Lvl row: 12 dB. At 0 dB the EQ changes nothing; turn it down for a cut.

  4. Press EXIT and answer NO to leave the factory program as it was, or SAVE to keep your version on a USER ID.
