Editing a chain

Chain EditorMAIN · INS PRE / INS POS · REMOVE · EDIT · MOD1-3 · INFO

On the FX or LYR FX page put the cursor on a chain and press EDIT: the Chain Editor opens. Its MAIN page shows the chain's boxes in series, up to 16: there you choose each box's effect, insert a box before or after it, remove it and EDIT its values. MOD1 to MOD3 give parameters to controllers, INFO names those controllers, and EXIT saves the chain.

WHAT TO KNOW

THE MAIN PAGE

With the cursor on a box the Alpha Wheel chooses its effect (+ and - together jump to the next family). INS PRE and INS POS put a new box before or after it, REMOVE takes it out, FX BYPASS lets you hear the chain without it while you edit.

FX UNITS

Every box takes FX units of the 32 the K2700 shares between all the chains loaded at once, in four groups of 8: a box must fit inside one group, so INS PRE refuses a box with no room left.

MODS

Up to 30 Mods: Box, Param, Adjust (the value with the control at 0), Source and Depth. A Mod on a MIDI controller becomes an entry on INFO, and on the PARAMS page of every program that uses the chain. A parameter a Mod drives shows FxMod: change the Mod's Adjust.

WATCH OUT

A chain is shared: a USER chain saved on its own ID changes every program that names it, and a factory chain saved becomes a new USER chain. Edit a copy when other programs use it.

IN THE FACTORY PROGRAMS

The factory programs use 690 different chains: a median of 5 boxes and 20 Mods each, up to 8 boxes and 30 Mods. Their Mods listen most to the chain's FUNs.

HOW TO ON YOUR K2700 · 1100 Callisto Pad

Callisto Pad's Aux 1, Grandiose Hall 2, takes its time from Knob 9 through a Mod. Open the chain, find the Mod, and see it again on PARAMS.

  1. In Program mode choose 1100 Callisto Pad (KEYPAD, 1100, ENTER).

Program mode with 1100 Callisto Pad
  2. Press EDIT, then FX, and move the cursor to Aux 1's chain, Grandiose Hall 2 (ID 2724). EDIT lights: on a chain it opens the Chain Editor.

The FX page of 1100 Callisto Pad, the cursor on Aux 1 (2724)
  3. Press EDIT. The Chain Editor opens on its MAIN page: the chain's boxes in series, here a single MiniVerb. With the cursor on a box the Alpha Wheel chooses its effect, INS PRE and INS POS put a new box before or after it, REMOVE takes it out and FX BYPASS lets you hear the chain without it.

  4. With the MiniVerb selected press EDIT: its values. Rvrb Time shows FxMod, for a Mod drives it. EXIT goes back to MAIN.

  5. Press MOD1: Box 1, Param Rvrb Time, Adjust 0.5 s, Source MIDI 9, Depth 9.5 s. Knob 9 sends MIDI 9, so the time runs from 0.5 s with the knob down to 10 s at the top.

  6. Press INFO: MIDI 9 is the chain's Reverb Time entry, the name the PARAMS page shows. Press EXIT to go back to the program. Had you changed the chain, the K2700 would ask first: YES saves it as a USER chain, NO leaves Grandiose Hall 2 as it was.

  7. Back in the program, press PARAMS: AUX1 Reverb Time is on Knob 9, at 64: where Knob 9, and so the hall's time, starts in this program.

The PARAMS page of 1100 Callisto Pad, the cursor on AUX1 Reverb Time (64)
  8. Press EXIT and answer NO to leave the factory program as it was, or SAVE to keep your version on a USER ID.
